Animal Biotechnology and Genomics Division
This division focuses on the development and application of genetically engineered animals, including transgenic, gene-edited, and cloned models, as well as the discovery of valuable animal genes and the advancement of reproductive control technologies using biotechnology. It also promotes the development and industrial utilization of animal cell lines, stem cells, and organoids to reduce animal use and establish alternative testing methods. In addition, the division conducts genetic structure analysis, genome sequencing, and functional studies on animals and livestock microorganisms to support scientific and industrial innovation.The Division has three laboratories – Laboratory of genetic engineering, Laboratory of animal stem cell, Laboratory of animal genomics. The main research areas of the Animal Biotechnology and Genomics Division are :

Animal Resources Food Tech Division focus on the evaluation of quality and storage property, establishment of national based distribution standard, development of processed meat and dairy products, investigation of functional food material in meat and dairy products, prevention and diagnostic technology for safety control to increase the potential value and consumption for the domestic animal resource food products. Precision Animal Nutrition Division
Our division leads research and development for carbon neutrality and climate resilience in the livestock sector. We enhance greenhouse gas inventory systems and perform comprehensive life-cycle emission assessments. To reduce enteric methane, we develop fermentation control strategies and innovative low-emission feeds for ruminants. We also assess the impacts of climate change on livestock, conduct vulnerability analyses, and design technologies to predict and mitigate heat stress during extreme weather. In the field of precision nutrition and feed safety, we evaluate amino acid requirements for nitrogen-reducing diets, analyze growth performance under shortened fattening periods, and assess feed contaminants to establish science-based safety standards. Additionally, we explore and evaluate alternative feed resources, lead the revision of the Korean Feeding Standards for Livestock, and develop advanced nutrient evaluation methods tailored to domestic conditions. Our work contributes to sustainable livestock production and evidence-based policy making. The main research areas of Precision Animal Nutrition Division are :

Animal welfare division conducts research to improve the welfare and rearing environments of farm animals and companion animals. The department researches animal-welfare facilities and animal behavior. The department also works on developing functional dog food and animal alternative methods. Animal Breeding and Genetics Division
Our division members are the rolling stones in charge of planning and supervising livestock breeding on a national basis along with research works to support this. Two major working areas are periodical checking of livestock performance testing programs and seedstock selection processes based on genetic potentials evaluated by statistical models developed through research projects. We provide estimated breeding values (EBV) of individual seedstock animals and mating guidelines in the forms of books, PC program and mobile application. We also cooperate to develope and manage nation-wide traceability system of cattle and pigs. The main research areas of the Animal Breeding and Genetics Division are :

Dairy Science Division
The goal of Dairy Science Division is improving milk quality and reducing of milk production cost via providing safe and functional dairy products for consumers and developing economic management system for dairy farmers. Three research groups (Breeding & Reproduction, Nutrition & Feeding, Livestock Disease & Hygiene) are engaged in both basic and applied research to achieve the desirable results according to the research mission of Dairy Science Division. Developed techniques have been transferred and industrialized for dairy industry. The main research areas of the Dairy Science Division are :
- Breeding and Reproduction research is conducted to explore new alternative genetic traits for selection to improve milk production and reproductive performance
- Nutrition and feeding researches are focused on developing Korean feeding standard for dairy cattle, quality and functional milk production, adaptation to climate changes, health and longevity of dairy cattle, and precision dairy farming technologies to improve production and cost efficiency for the establishment of sustainable dairy industry in Korea.
- Livestock Disease and Hygiene research is in charge of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease in livestock, and focused on the disease tolerance and clinical veterinary medicine of livestock.

Introduction
Swine Science Division is carrying out studies on the establishment of nucleus herds via line breeding and cross breeding, the development of breeding technology for improving swine performance. Subtropical Livestock Research Center
The Subtropical Livestock Research Center was originally established in 1956 as the Jeju branch of the National Institute for National Livestock, and it was later renamed to its current title. Our main roles are to study on growth and improvement promoting availability in Jeju native livestock, to study on developing management technologies and popularization of technique and study on using tropical forage crop and so on. Our research fields encompass the breeding of native livestock and Korean riding horses, as well as the development and cultivation of new varieties of tropical forage crops.
