his study investigated effects of fermented milk (FM) supplementation on growth performance and gut conditions in weaning piglets. A total of 100 10-day-old piglets were assigned to control and FM treatment groups during pre-weaning (10-27 day-old) and post weaning (27-64 day-old) period. The FM was daily provided to two liter/replication/d for the pre-weaning and to twenty liter/replication/d for the post-weaning. Growth performance was not different between the two experiment groups during the pre-weaning. However, during the post-weaning, daily gain and daily feed intake were higher in the FM group than in the control, and the feed conversion ratio was reduced in the treatment group compared with control. The blood corpuscle and physiological indexes were not different between the control and FM groups. Fecal Escherichia coli was lower in the FM group compared to the control, while the Lactobacillus spp. was higher. Emissions of fecal hydrogen sulfide and total mercaptans were reduced by supply of the FM. Intestinal villi in piglets fed with the FM were morphological denser than in the control. Therefore, these results suggest that the growth performance, fecal noxious emission, and intestinal environments would be improved by FM supplementation.
