This study evaluated the effects of feeding levels of local barnyard millet and imported Bermuda
hay on performance, intake, digestibility, and morphology in male and female goats. Eight goats (four
per sex) with initial BW of 18.6 ± 1.1 kg (females) and 24.8 ± 1.3 kg (males) were assigned to a 4×4
Latin square design and fed forages at 1.5% and 2.0% of BW over 22 weeks. In females, 1.5% local and
2.0% imported forage led to higher BW gain (2.5–3.6 kg), ADG (70.7–102.9 g/d), and DMI (697.9–711.6
g). Organic matter, CP, and EE intakes were highest with 2.0% imported forage, while 1.5% local forage
improved digestible CP, NDF, and ADF. Morphometric varied: 1.5% imported forage enhanced body
length and chest width; shoulder height and chest girth were greatest at 1.5% local and 2.0% imported
forage. In males, BW gain (3.8–4.4 kg) and ADG (104.2–109.3 g/d) peaked at 1.5% local and 2.0%
imported forage. Imported forage improved DMI, OM, and EE intake, while digestible CP was highest at
1.5% local and both imported levels. Morphometric traits peaked in males at 1.5% imported forage.
Overall, 2.0% imported hay optimized intake and structure, while 1.5% local millet supported growth,
especially in males.
